Own words I eat thee

I may have to eat my words and actually install XP on my new computer. After a patch install over 2 weeks ago, I’ve had nothing but problems and reboots on this Vista machine. The fixes were as varied as reinstall, registry patches to installing Service Pack 1.

I’ve removed the second HD, used only 1 of the 2 sticks of RAM, swapped the stick, begged, pleaded and bribed to no avail.

I’m downloading the 450Mb SP1 behemoth right now, and if it doesn’t work then back to XP it goes.

I’m quite disappointed with this as the computer really hasn’t had any issues before this. I’m pretty sure its not HW as its also pretty stable in Safe Mode.

The Sommers are going back to Germany after a 3 year stint here. We’ll see them soon albeit in Germany.

Daniel, keep your blog in English!

Just like winning the lottery.

Today we drove to a sales office to do an unscheduled inplace replacement of an ENTIRE phone system. The history behind the unscheduled part, is inconsequential, as the act of doing the replacement in the 1.5 hours was amazing.

We replaced a Cisco Call Manager system with an Asterisk FreePBX system. The actual system was preinstalled and deployed at the location. We went in and reset the switch (for which we didn’t have a password to) to reset the TFTP settings, and rebooted all the phones. They each connected to the new box, downloaded the setups, and Poof are now on our box. Felt like winning the lottery. It went way too smooth.

The only gotchas were the fact that another section of the building was also on another switch that we simply reset too… oh yeah and Travis snafued the passwords to the first switch. I did kinda semi cause it though by inverting the system and enable passwords.

Rash of Gmail Spam

Posted on May 11th, 2008 in by ChrisLim

I’ve been getting a few spam emails in the last week or so all with the eledigital or elidigital domain. Although I mark them as spam, they keep showing up.

Me thinks that someone has harvested some gmail accounts and started spamming people, as the emails actually comes from a gmail account.

I did a Google search on the domain and its some unsavory site hosted somewhere in europe selling a lot of fake stuff. I wonder if Gmail’s spam engine is only powerful for external emails and not from itself… wonder wonder wonder…
