There! Spring weather will come much sooner now.

Dinner for tonight, fired up some slabs of beef, shrimp and vegetables on the grill outside. Wearing shorts and a sweater (I’m not stupid!) I opened the tailgate of the SUV and blared some 80’s top-40’s hits. It was a nice and cool 40°F but the nice heat emanating from the fire evened it all out.

Perhaps the gods will accept this offering and remember that March 21st was last week and s/he should stop blanketing us with snow.

On a sad note the company golf outing is now defunct, and wifey has purchased me a spiffy new cart bag for my other league.

Never ever take a stupid picture

because one day out of the blue, a college buddy will send it to you and say, “I’m going to post this on Facebook!”

[shudder]

It was 1 am sometime in 1988. We went to a pool hall that night and walked home. Walking through a park, I had the stupid idea of taking their pictures as they pose with 3 bronze deer statues.

Out of the 8 or so lewd picts, I’m only in one of them…

Of course that’s the one he wants to post. Now to call my other buddies to make sure the other pictures are posted too.

Thank goodness, I at least have my clothes on…

Look ma no software!

This year we actually did our taxes online. Completely online.

H&R Block’s Taxcut has TaxCut Premium completely fillable via the web. You don’t pay anything until you file. Only $44.95 which includes e-filing of your Federal and State Taxes.

It took about 1.5 hours as I was naturally had to carefully check the entries. It was quite easy to follow, almost the same as the software version.

So, all electronic and paperless, as I printed the files to a PDF file too. :-)

Now, we just sit back and wait for the check direct deposits.

“Please step aside sir, while we fondle your ultra sexy… laptop”

I was thinking when the first MbA’s showed up that this would happen. You would think that a communicae would be sent throughout the org that laptops are now being shipped without a hard drive.

All I can say is that – At least he now has a hell of a readable blog entry. :-)

How to fix the Outlook Red X issue

Posted on March 12th, 2008 in by ChrisLim

Every once in a while I guess Outlook has a hiccup and puts a Red X icon in place of any pasted image. Its probably only in HTML images as RTF emails have the images embedded in the mail.

Here’s how you fix it:

  • Launch Outlook
  • Open an email with an attachment (like a Word doc)
  • In the opened attachment,
    • goto File | Properties
    • in the General tab, copy the Location field
    • its something like C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK39
  • In Windows goto Start | Run and paste it in
  • You’ll get to the folder where Outlook dumps temporary files.
  • Exit Outlook
  • Delete the content of this folder.
  • Open Outlook and voila! its fixed.
