Bad news Good news.

Bad news, kid is sick so we can’t go T’oT’ing.

Good news, webcam is hooked up with motion detection software so we’ll know when they come by before they ring the bell. :-)

Rug burns

Posted on October 28th, 2007 in by ChrisLim

I’m currently applying salve and ointment to our rugburns and cuts received during a really fun birthday party at the local indoor blowup balloon maze and slide called Bounceland.

They had 6 HUGE slides and mazes and a few “air” hockey and basketball hoop including a really massive 2 slide “roller coaster” behemoth.  I don’t actually remember when I got the injuries but it was definitely stinging for a while.

I wonder if there’s a site for other counters…

Theory of Gas Prices

Posted on October 25th, 2007 in by ChrisLim

Heres an interesting theory I thought up today.

Facts:

  1. Petrol/Gas prices are over $80/barrel.
  2. However gas at the pump is $2.74/gallon.
  3. Most SUV (dominant vehicles on the road) has a 20 Gallon Tank
  4. Mastercard is limiting gas purchases at the pump to $50
  5. $50/20 gallon = 2.5
  6. Most vehicles ‘ding’ their warnings when there’s about 1-2 gallons left
  7. 50/ (20 – 1.5) = 50/18.5 = $2.702 (which is darn close to the currentgas prices)
  8. merchants pay a fixed fee plus a percentage of the total amount.
  9. Limiting gas purchase to $50 INCREASES the fixed per transaction fee.

Theory:

To make sure that customers fill up their vehicles all the way, they need to keep the gas prices at $2.70ish/gallon. No?

So we have Visa and Mastercard to thank for keeping gas prices down. Too bad the Gas companies are trying to class-action them. :-)
Twisted but kinda makes sense…

Portal – Robots, Gravity, Deadly sludge, oh my!

Posted on October 14th, 2007 in by ChrisLim

I just spent more than 5 hours playing Portal. Its a PC game with two weapons. One a gun and the second is the gray stuff between your ears. This is one of the Top 5 Games I’ve ever played.

Its basically a solve the puzzle game of “19″ levels. The first few help you understand the game. The 1 physical weapon is a “portal” gun. Its pretty simple. You shoot the wall to create an “in” portal and shoot another wall to create the “out” portal. Portals are bidirectional.

The most important part is understanding the physics behind the portals. An “in” portal on the wall and an “out” portal hanging on the ceiling makes for a BIG first step. Trying to understand the recursive aspect of the physics in making a new portal as you’re falling out of another is mind numbingly fun.

The background audio is of this very entertaining computer. I shouldn’t go on too much in this game, but I’ll say that I have a wicked headache trying to understand the consequences of where I place the portals.

9.5 out of 10! BTW, I bought this as part of a 5 game set that came with ValvE’s Orange Box. All I can say now is thanks for the headache Daniel. See you in Team Fortress 2!

Diet part II

Posted on October 13th, 2007 in by ChrisLim

My “Half” diet seems to work well. The only issue is that for the first few days, I was still hungry after my meals. Those were usually caused by the forgetting to snack a little between meals.

Today was particularly sucky as we had to do some work on the weekend  that required me to actually be at work.

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that breakfast/lunch consisted of Coffee, 2 Tillamook beef sticks, and a day old but still tasty Chocolate donut.

Tonight, I look forward to eat another half portion of something yummy.

Also,  last night,  I wasn’t able to eat half of my dinner as the take-out was especially small portioned. Twas a good this as I’m beginning to not like throwing away the half portions that I was supposed to “save” for another meal.
