Lull

Posted on March 19th, 2007 in by ChrisLim

There has been a lull in posts from everyone. I note that Hywell also has a lull and suffers from my “drafting” posts but never posting them.

All in all its has been a very busy 3 months as it has in the past years.

I’ve been on 18 flight legs about 27000 miles almost around the world. Lost my baggage twice, delayed 10 times, and slept before the flight took off 4 times. believe Tom will corroborate that I have that issue.

I see that I have 7 drafts that may never see the light of the web.

The last trip was to Europe again. London was fun, not the dreary, overcast that most movies make it out too. It was lively, bright and sunny. I recommend the Holiday Inn near the airport. The bus (no 111) is a free ride to it from Heathrow. Then take the Underground to LondonĀ  via paying the all day pass for USD$13. “Mind the Gap!”

How to do London in 7 hours

Posted on March 10th, 2007 in by ChrisLim
  1. Land in Heathrow, take the shuttle to your airport (ours was The Holiday Inn)
  2. Get checked in – leave your friends Light Saber collectible in said shuttle (Sorry Thorsten!)
  3. Admire nice room, notice that internet isn’t free, open notepad to write this blog entry. Try to call friend who will tour guide us.
  4. Find out from reception that there is a free bus #111 to the Airport/Underground station
  5. Jump on bus, a double decker too!, and ride to station – 3 minutes
  6. At station buy day pass 7 Pounds,
  7. Get on train and make fun of gentlemen saying “Mind the Gap” which was sometimes 2 or 8 inches wide, sometimes 7 inches high or low, or just almost 4 millimeters.
  8. 25 minutes later get off at Picadilly Circus. Nice locale, expensive looking stores
  9. Walk south and find a London Tourist Centre, nice chaps, very helpful.
  10. Walk North, taking pictures like idiot tourists, and not caring either, to Hamleys, a large toy store. Oogled at all the techy stores, bought books for Syd. walked back to Picadilly via back roads.
  11. Find Chinese Restaurant, have dim sum for lunch. 39 Pounds!
  12. Walk to find tour bus, nice driver didn’t want to take our money as it was getting dark.
  13. Walked to Trafalgar Square, then souvenir store then Big Ben who nicely chimed 6pm for us. Then walked to London Eye, and decided NOT to pay the 14.50 Pounds for the ride.
  14. Walked to nearest tube stop, waited for an hour as all the trains were packed full, took train back to Heathrow, made fun on lady now saying “Mind the Gap!”
  15. Back on bus 111 back to hotel. Greeted by lost Light Saber … Phew.
  16. Done
