Merdeka

Today’s Malaysia’s 49th Independence Day. Later at dinner my highschool buddies and their significant others wives and kids will come for dinner. I can’t wait!

Played again just now and shot about a 42. The fairways are all a strain of grass affectionately called “cow grass” The greens are bermuda. You can’t play the US like pitch and stick it close to the cup. The game here is chip it close.

We golf this morning at a course my uncle was a member of. It was called Rahman Putra. An interesting layout with challenging approaches, blind drives and some tough holes.

I actually shot a 51 on the front 9 with about 4 sevens; and about a 42 on the back 9. Funny thing was that it rained for the last 9 holes. Birdied only one hole , number 18, a very long up hill par 5.

Paid a fine…

I had to pay a fine today.
The Malaysian govt ordered all citizens to renew their National Identity Cards. We went to the regional office and was prepared for the fine.

1 hour later we left with a whopping RM10 (USD$2.60) fine for a late renewal. LOL!

Ugh.. I ate too much/many

Durians….

The King of fruit is soft, milky and very fragrant. Ok, so it kind smells like Garbage, but oh that taste!

The most tasty version is a genetically engineered version called D24. Sounds ominous but its to die for. Actually, I can only have a few seeds. Any more than 7 and I start to get a case of indigestion.

The IT Mall – Low Yat

First up we went to the KL Bird park, a very large covered aviary filled with Ostriches, Emus, swans, eagles, parrots, and peacocks.

Next another trip to the city to go find a Wireless DSL router. We went to this large “IT Mall” called Low Yat. 7 floors of computer stores, there were easily 150 stores. I bought an WRT56G for about USD$50. Now I can wirelessly surf the net from anywhere in the house. :-)

The Mad Mad Mall

We next went to a gigantic mall in the city called Mid Valley. My Dad not to mention almost everyone else calls it Mad Valley due to the size and difficulty in getting into the mall. It has 5 levels of parking and including the mini traffic jam it takes 15 minutes is to get to a parking spot. It took 7 minutes to leave the parking structure. There are hundreds of stores that fill almost every need, department stores, sushi restaurants, computer stuff, clothing, furniture, the works. Its by far the largest mall in the 2000 mile vicinity, no kidding.
