I comtemplated posting this all weekend but its the truth so here goes.
We were in Meijer on Saturday early evening. Its generally a pleasent place to shop if you have a lot of time. This evening we popped in to get a couple of stuff for lunch tomorrow.
Within 20 minutes we got all the stuff we needed , 16 of them. We walked by the nice new pretty displays, ala Walmart, and noted the smart things they did to improve the drab look they used to have. You can tell they spent some money. Unfortunately, its money spent in the wrong department.
We get to the front of the store to checkout. Lo and behold, there are THREE cashiers with 6-7 people in each line each also steaming with their full carts. I start to fume, wifey sees this and intelligently leaves me to go sit down knowing what will ensue. I noted that very few people are in the self-chekcout lane.
As I simmered for the next 10 minutes, I noticed a couple ladies chatting and laughing away. Not really a big deal in normal circumstances but when you try to squeeze 29 people in 3 lanes averaging 3-5 minutes per person, well, you do the math.
I start to back out and walk to the self checkout lane. At this point 3 other full carted people are already there. As I calmly bitch at those two lookout ladies, they start to hustle.
Our full cart bunch at the self checkout are very courteous and allow everone with 2-4 items to pass us. As they start to open more lanes more more people see this and get in line.
A total of 25 minutes later I get to the car, muttering “How much I hate shopping at Meijer…”
Just bitching about it isn’t enough. One must balance equal bitching with equal suggestions and feedback.
Unfortunately this just ain’t what’s going to happen this time, they just suck. They wonder why I drive another 5 minutes to go shop at Hardings while paying 10 cents more for a 5 dollar item.
Here’s a tip Meijer if you ever read this: Have the Cashier HIT A BUTTON or CODE if they have more than 6 people in line.
