Don’t bother applying for work here if you smoke…
The local community college is now only accepting positions from people who do not smoke. Their claim is that it will breed more productive employees and lower cost health insurance.
I wonder if my company would follow suit? None of the Exec’s smoke. People who smoke take multiple 15 minute breaks. Hywell quit smoking last year and hasn’t taken very many breaks. He now probably has enough for a small home downpayment from saving 4-5 bucks a pack a day.
My feelings on this is ambivalence. I don’t think I care either way. A world of non-smokers is a nice semi-utopia, but this would put a LOT of RJR employees out of work.
SBC DSL (not) order
Ok, this was a really strange day…
I get home today with a package at my front door. It was from SBC. It appeared to be an SBC DSL Modem (I didn’t open the package).
The (not so) funny thing is that we didn’t order it. Called SBC and they appologized. Hmm… maybe its their new marketing plan to send them out to people hoping that they’ll just sign up anyways.
My coax cablemodem broadband will still smoke their puny copper wire solution.

Religion
Since I started it in the last post, here’s a my two cents about religion.
I am NOT a Christian, ok, so I have an Anglicized name, my mom is Catholic. I believe that there is a God, period.
Something must have started all this, however I do believe that not everything is fate. One beef I have about organized religion is that they all follow a “book”, books are written by humans, humans are fallible, self-centric, propagandistic {word?}, and just plain stupid. This includes me.
When I see that evil worm Al Zarkawi declaring a war on Democracy, it just in all sense of the phrase, really pisses me off. Who in Hades does this person think he is President Bush? People, we have enough ego maniacs declaring war on concepts.
Many more people will die in Iraq during the next years as these assholes Al Zarkawi, Osama* and his cronies, will command their misguided legions to their deaths.
* the word “bin” in bin Laden means “son of”. Newspeople ,please (a) learn the culture and (b) use his real name Osama bin Laden. BTW, the feminine term is “binti”.

Tivo recorded a lot of good show, Stargate:Atlantis, Monk, Golf {yay Tiger!} , Charmed and Dogma {yes I like this movie, it has great insights about religion, people get too hung up about which religion is right}
